Thai Visa Waiver Scheme to be Proposed for Chinese Tourists
Chairman of Airport Operation Committee Chaiwat Nawaratch attended a
Rehabilitation of Aviation Transportation Network Committee meeting
yesterday aimed at promoting Thailand as the center for regional
aviation and tourism.
The committee believes that a special waiver for entry visas for Chinese tourists would increase the stagnant visitor rate caused by the closing of Suwannapoom international airport.
The committee plans to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before it proceeds and believes this measure will help the tourism situation as many Chinese tourists have purchasing power and are interested in visiting Thailand.
There will also be a conference for top 5 tourism entrepreneurs from 5 countries, namely China, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan to exchange ideas about improving tourism in Thailand and what kind of supports they would need from Thailand in order to do so. The conference is planned for March.
