Defamation Case against Former Outspoken MP Dismissed - Thailand - lawsuit - politics - Chuwit Kamolwisit


The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by a former official of the Corrections Department seeking a reversal of the acquitting of a defamation case against a former key member of the defunct Chart Thai Party over a kickback scandal.



The lawsuit is stemmed from an allegation made by former MP of the dissolved Chart Thai Party, Chuwit Kamolwisit , that he was forced by officials in the Corrections Department to pay a kickback of 5,000 baht for a dish of fried rice while being detained at Bangkok’s Southern Criminal Court.

The Supreme Court ruled not to accept the complaint filed by a former official of the Corrections Department, Theerachai Jessdaruk, as the Primary Court and the Appeals Court ruled in the same direction, to drop the case.
