‘Made in Thailand’ expo aims at strengthening cultural ties
CHENNAI: With Thai cookery classes, Thai classical dance performances and Thai boxing demonstrations, the eighth edition of the ‘Made in Thailand + Destination Thailand’ exhibition that began here on Wednesday aims at strengthening the cultural relationship between the two nations while boosting the trade volume.
Inaugurating the five-day exhibition being organised by the Department of Export Promotion of the Royal Thai government and the Thai Trade Centre, N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, said that India and Thailand had a shared civilisational and cultural heritage and a strong bilateral relationship.
The fact that the number of participants at this year’s exhibition had increased to around 50 from around 30 last year, in spite of the global economic slowdown, showed the positive aspects of Indo-Thai relations.
He called upon the Indian government to conclude the long-pending Free Trade Agreement with Thailand to improve business and people-to-people relations.
Paisan Maraprygsavan, Director, Thai Trade Mission, Chennai, said that business interactions would be arranged for interested local entrepreneurs. The Thai way of life would also be presented.
Among the programmes organised were Thai Ramayana performances and Thai festivals.
