The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand will host its GIA GemFest Thailand on Sept. 16 in conjunction with the 44th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair. The speaker Richard W. Hughes will talk about his gemological travels, covering ground that spans from Manhattan and Russia's emerald mines to Madagascar's sapphire and Tajikistan's remote ruby and spinel deposits.

“Travel is an essential ingredient of gemology,” Hughes said. “Gemologists are privileged to work with some of the most stunning objects from all over the planet, which are truly singular marvels of extraordinary beauty and wonder.”

The GIA GemFest Thailand is a free event and will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the IMPACT Muang Thong Thani arena in the Jupiter Room 8-9, Challenger Hall 3.
