Fire engine mobilized for Cloud Gate performance in Bangkok
Created in 1998, "Moon Water, " a contemporary work with Tai Chi movements, requires real water on stage at the end of the show, so a fire engine was arranged to do the job at the performance site at the Thailand Cultural Center. "It marked the first time that a fire truck has been assigned to provide liquid element needed on stage, " said Cloud Gate founder and artistic director and celebrated choreographer Lin Hwai-min at a cocktail reception hosted by Taiwan's representative office in Thailand in honor of Lin and Cloud Gate dancers after the performance.
It was also the world-renowned dance company's first-ever show in Thailand.
"We have made numerous stopovers in Bangkok en route to Europe for performances.... We are jubilant that our dream of performing in this country was finally realized," an emotional Lin said.
According to Lin, "Moon Water" is inspired by a Buddhist proverb: "Flowers in a mirror and moon on the water are both illusive." "In Buddhism, life is merely an illusion. I was inspired by this, so we literally have mirrors as a backdrop in 'Moon Water' and we have real water on stage at the end of the show," Lin said.
