Mazda's Thai teaser

THERE is only so much a 10-minute plus introduction can do. Besides the first impression one gets from quickly giving the once-over of the subject involved, one normally gets to find out a wee bit about it such as the cursory what they do, where they come from and why is the meeting taking place.

In the case of a recent meeting of Malaysian journalists with the soon-to-be launched Mazda2, the ''what'' was simply well, it's a car, so drive it.

The ''where'' was Mazda Motor Corp's new passenger car plant at AutoAlliance Thailand Co Ltd, a joint venture factory with Ford Motor Company.

The plant is located at Rayong's Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate, about an hour-and-a-half's drive from Pattaya. And the ''why'' was a sneak preview of this Mazda family member.

True, the test drive was only minutes long and held at a course on the factory grounds.

But the drive was only meant to ''tease'' the journos before the anticipated launch at different times for Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
