The new Mazda2 will launch in Thailand tomorrow, 17 November, in an official ceremony at the Bangkok Convention Centre. Mazda Sales (Thailand) recently held a meeting to prepare ASEAN dealers and sales staff for the launch.

So far, pre-orders for the sporty new model have exceeded expectations. Sureetip La-Ongthong, marketing director of Mazda Sales (Thailand), explained that 500 bookings were received in just one week. In total, the OEM expects more than 1,000 pre-bookings.

The Mazda2 is built at the AutoAlliance plant in Rayong. Exports to other ASEAN countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Australia, will begin in December. Partner Ford is expected to introduce its own version of the model, the Fiesta, early next year.

The Mazda2 is powered by a 1.5- litre gasoline engine and is compatible with E20 ethanol blends. Prices start at Baht 535,000 (US$16,116).
