Ford Fiesta makes Asean debut as it stars in Thailand Motor Expo
The event, held from December 2 until Sunday, allowed for a glimpse of the latest model of the popular Fiesta. Ford said it had sold more than a half million units in the first 12 months of the car’s introduction in Europe.
The carmaker added the new Fiesta will go on sale in Thailand in “just a few short months,” and will be locally produced at AutoAlliance Thailand’s new $500-million small-car production facility. Ford said this plant will supply the Asean market, as well as that of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
“The Asean launch will write the next chapter in our global Ford Fiesta success story and continue to highlight Ford’s leadership in small car design and development,” said Ford Asean President David Alden.
“Stylish consumers in the region will appreciate the uniqueness and undeniable appeal of the Fiesta, which allows them to express their individuality, style and sophistication.”
The Fiesta’s five-door hatchback model will initially be sold, with the car’s four-door sedan variant following once production begins next year, according to Ford.
