Taxi drivers protest cancellation of Bt50 passenger service charge at Suvarnabhumi

Taxi drivers protest cancellation of Bt50 passenger service charge at Suvarnabhumi - Thailand - Business - Suvarnabhumi

About 900 taxi owners and drivers protested at Suvarnabhumi airport on Thursday morning and refused to take passengers. They demanded that Airports of Thailand (AOT) reconsider its decision to cancel the collection of the 50 baht passenger service charge.

Police said a group of drivers complained that the surcharge they collected from the passengers had to be shared with the AOT and officials overseeing the taxi operation in Suvarnabhumi.

This left them with little money in the end.

If they were not allowed to collect the service charge they would have to pay these shares from their own pockets and it would not be worthwhile working the airport.

Officials had negotiated with the taxi drivers' representatives, but there was no agreement.
