The Foreign Ministry has asked Mexico to transport three Thai nationals working in Haiti to Mexico City.

Eight Thais are known to have been living in Haiti when the earthquake struck last Tuesday. All are safe.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya yesterday gave the names and contact numbers of the three Thais to Mexican charge d'affaires to Bangkok, Alfonso Ascencio Herrera.

The cooperation came after Mr Kasit met with Mexican Foreign Minister Patricia Espinosa Cantellano in Japan on Saturday on the sidelines of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation.

''Mexico flies to Haiti five times a day, so it can evacuate the three to Mexico City and the Thai embassy there can find airplane tickets for them if they want to return to Thailand,'' the minister said.

Mr Kasit said anyone with relatives working in Haiti could give their names to the ministry's Consular Department so Mexico could help track them.
