First Thai earthquake evacuee returns from Haiti disaster zone - Thailand - society

A three-month pregnant Thai woman arrived in Bangkok from Haiti early Saturday, 11 days after a devastating earthquake shook that country. Her arrival makes her the first Thai to have arrived home safely.

Thirty-year-old Sutthinee Inkapoh arrived at Suvarnabhumi international airport via London shortly before dawn and is scheduled to depart for Hat Yai about noon Saturday.

Meeting the media on arrival, Ms Sutthinee said she had not yet decided whether to return to Haiti after giving birth in August. Her husband has two months remaining in his employment contract, which can be extended.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok said there are six Thais living in Haiti now, including two Christian missionaries who said they will continue staying to help quake victims in Haiti, three restaurant workers and Mrs Sutthinee’s husband who is an engineer at a telecom firm providing mobile phone service in Haiti.
