Toyota says US recall has no impact on models in Thai market

Although the Thai-made Camry and Corolla are based on the same models built in the US, Toyota Motor Thailand says the specifications differ slightly.

"The faulty accelerator pedal in the US models was due to the thick floor mats. In Thai models, thinner rubber mats are fitted instead," said a company spokesman in Bangkok.

Even so, Toyota said it would explain the matter to any Thai customers who raise concerns.

Over the past month, Toyota has announced the recall of 3.4 million vehicles and suspended the sales of eight models in the United States in order to fix pedal problems that may cause acceleration without warning.
