Tamarine Tanasugarn will lead Thailand in the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 in Malaysia this week.

Tamarine joined the rest of the team on Sunday and will play in both singles and doubles matches, Suwat Liptapanlop, president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT), said yesterday.

The other Thai singles player will be either Suchanan Viratprasert or Nudnida Luangnam. Tamarine will partner Varatchaya Wongtienchai in the doubles after their gold medal winning performance at the 2009 SEA Games.

The other seven teams in the tournament are Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, New Zealand and Uzbekistan.

They will be divided into two groups. The group winners will meet in a play-off and the winners progress to the World Group II play-offs tournament in April.

The draw will be made today.
