Tennis: Kazakhstan edge Thailand 2-1 in Fed Cup - Thailand - Fed Cup - Sports - tennis - Kazakhstan


Thailand were edged 2-1 by Kazakhstan in their second match of the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday.



Suchanun Viratprasert lost 6-4, 6-2 to Sessil Karatancheva but world No 87 Tamarine Tanasugarn upset No 48 Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3 in the singles.

SEA Games champions Tamarine and Varatchaya Wongtienchai were defeated 6-4, 6-3 by Shvedova and Galina Voskoboeva in the deciding doubles.

In yesterday's other Group B match of the two-group tournament, Taiwan defeated Uzbekistan 2-1.

Taiwan lead Group B with two wins, while Thailand and Kazakhstan are 1-1 and Uzbekistan are winless.

Thailand now have to beat Taiwan today to top Group B. The top teams of each group meet in the final and the winners advance to the World Group II play-offs.
