Thailand to host first Mekong River summit in Hua Hin, April 2-5 - environment - Mekong - Thailand - Hua Hin - water


The first Mekong River summit will take be held between April 2 to 5 in Hua Hin, Thailand, the Mekong River Commission (MRC) has announced.



The summit, which marks the 15th anniversary of the MRC, will be attended by regional political leaders and a range of experts in the field of integrated water resources management.

The aim of the event is to reaffirm the political commitment of member countries to the mission of the MRC and strengthen regional cooperation between the Mekong River Commission member countries of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam and dialogue partners China and Myanmar as well as civil society.

Among the topics to be discussed are the long-term effects of climate change and the role of River Basin Organisations in poverty alleviation.

A two-day international conference on water management, titled "Transboundary Water Resources Management in a Changing World," will precede the regional event.
