Three fishing boats capsized and two others went missing on Thursday following a severe summer storm had generated high waves in the shores of the central Thai province of Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Residents in Thap Sakae used a tractor to pull the three sunken boats to the shore, after they had been hit by heavy waves and sank near the shoreline.

A number of boats were badly damaged, but two others were reported missing.

Villagers worry that high waves may smash fishing villages along the shore, if the bad weather continues.

According to the Thai national weather service, summer thunderstorms are expected in the North, East and South of the country in the following one or two days. Winds and waves in the Gulf of Thailand are reported to intensify. Small ships have been advised to stay ashore until Friday.
