Tourist assistance centre, 24-hour hotline set up to help travelers during anti-government rallies
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has opened a tourist assistance centre in order to help and advise travelers during the anti-government demonstrations by UDD, held between March 12-23, Thailand's Tourism and Sports Ministry said. The TAT has also launched a 24-hour call centre, which can be reached by tel. no. 1672.
The tourist assistance centre is located on the 17th floor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) headquarters in Bangkok’s New Petchburi Road.
The Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpaarcha said the centre will receive updates on emergency situations involving violence or other disruptions and will coordinate with other agencies to better assist foreign visitors.
Staff stationed at the centre are from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the tourist police, representatives from Thai Hotels Association, the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA), General Insurance Association, and the Federation of Thai Industries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport will also give assistance and provide conveniences to help travelers’ relocation if necessary.
Mr Chumpol said the tourist police have also set up three assistance points in the capital to facilitate visitors at Wiset Chaisi police booth near the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha from 9am-6pm daily, and at Chanasongkram police station near Khao San Road and Lumpini Park near the King Rama VI Statue, both opern from 6pm-midnight daily.
TAT and the Tourist Police have also opened an office at Suvarnabhumi Airport in order to help tourists and prevent the seizure of the airport.
