Grenade explodes in Bangkok; Ping pong bomb in Chiang Mai - Thailand - crime - Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Newin Chidchob


An M79 grenade exploded on Tuesday at a house 200 metres from the Bangkok residence of the president of the Thailand's Supreme Administrative Court. On the same day, the company of Bhumjaithai Party leader Newin Chidchob's father-in-law was targeted with a ping pong bomb.



Pol Maj-Gen Saroj Promcharoen, chief of Metropolitan Police Division 2, said the incident happened early Tuesday in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, in Lat Phrao Soi 23. The blast caused damage to the roof and ceiling of the house, who is owned by a businessman.

Judge Akkarathorn Chularat, the President of the Supreme Administrative Court, lives nearby in Lat Phrao Soi 25.

Police have since boosted security at Mr Akkarathorn's home.

In another news, the office of a company owned by Newin Chidchob's father-in-law in Chiang Mai was targeted with a ping pong bomb also Tuesday morning, police said.

Pol Lt-Col Withaya Winyayong, a duty officer of Phuping Ratchaniwes police station, said the bomb was thrown into the office of Chiang Mai Construction Co, on Mahidol Road in Chiang Mai's Muang district, about 3.40am.

The company belongs to Kanaen Supha, the father-in-law of Mr Newin, de facto leader of the Bhumjaithai Party.

The detonation shatterred the front glass window of the company. The damage was estimated at 4,000 baht.
