SAFA (South Africa Football Association) has reached an agreement with the Thailand Football Federation to play an international friendly on May 16 at the new Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

The Thailand showdown will be the first Bafana match to be played at the new FIFA World Cup venue in the Mpumalanga Province.

SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe says the Thailand fixture brings to four the number of friendlies lined up for Bafana before the World Cup.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure that we secure four international friendlies as requested by the coach and his technical team. We believe that these games will give the team an opportunity to take their experiences of the Brazil and Germany training camps to another level.

“We are also grateful that this fixture will officially open the Mbombela Stadium,” Sedibe said, according to Kickoff.com.
