Thailand's northeastern areas have now been hit by severe drought, with a dozen of districts in Buri Ram Province having been declared drought-battered disaster zones.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office is assessing the situation of six other drought-hit districts, on whether the districts too should be declared as disaster zones, reports Thai News Agency on Tuesday.

Due to severe drought, more than 154,000 households suffered from shortage of water for drinking and agricultural use.
