Bangkok is world's best city 2011, says readers of Travel + Leisure

In a reader's survey by Travel + Leisure magazine's World's Best Awards 2011, Bangkok took home the top vote and bested such esteemed international travel destinations as Florence, Rome, New York City and Paris.

A questionnaire developed by the editors of Travel + Leisure that judges cities around the world for their sights, culture, food, people, shopping and value was used to make the determination. Bangkok came out on top once again with an overall score of 90.49, an improvement of .19 over last year's rating.

For the United States and Canada, New York City, NY, Charleston, SC, Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, and Santa Fe, NM, were rated as the top five cities. Argentina's Buenos Aires was named the top city in the Mexico and Latin America bracket; Florence, Italy, was rated Europe's best; Cape Town was selected as the best city in Africa and the Middle East; and the capitol of Australia, Sydney, was voted the best city in the Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific region.

Bangkok will be honored at an awards ceremony that is scheduled for July 14th. The ceremony will be hosted by Travel + Leisure Editor-in-Chief Nancy Novogrod and VP/Publisher Jean-Paul Kryillos at the Mr. C Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles.
