Yaegashi stops Porpramook for minimumweight title - Sports - boxing - Pornsawan - WBA

Pornsawan Porpramuk's reign as WBA Minimumweight champion ended in his first title defence after he lost to Japan's Akira Yaekashi in Tokyo yesterday.

Finnish referee Erkki Meronen stopped the fight in the 10th round of a scheduled 12-rounder after Yaegashi, the fourth-ranked contender, pinned the Thai on the ropes with a barrage of blows that found their mark.

Throughout the fight, the 33-year-old Thai could not match the speed and power of the Japanese fighter who is five years younger and appeared to have more stamina and speed..

It was Yaegashi's second attempt at a world title and his victory improved his record to 15 wins (8KOs) and two losses.

For Pornsawan, it was his fourth defeat against 23 wins (16KOs) and one draw. He won the title from Indonesia's Muhamed Rachman in July.
