The Thai women’s and men’s volleyball teams celebrate after winning gold medals.

Thailand won 10 gold medals yesterday to take a commanding hold on the second overall spot at the 26th SEA Games with two days to go.

Thailand lifted three titles in the women's weightlifting _ one from Olympic champion Prapavadee Jaroenrattanatharakoon _ and swept golds in both the men's and women's volleyball after an impressive day's showing.

Powerful weightlifters

Prapavadee led a Thai sweep of three golds at stake in weightlifting yesterday.

In the women's 53kg, she took gold with a total attempt of 205kg (90kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk) beating Citra Febriyanti of Indonesia (203kg) and Nguyen Thi Thuy of Vietnam (205kg).

The Thai, who competed for the first time in more than a year due to injury, said she was reaching full fitness and was now looking forward to qualifying for next year's Olympics.

The 28-year-old added that this would be her final SEA Games after also winning golds at the 2003 and 2005 tournaments.
