Where to get artistic in Bangkok
There's always an excuse for shelving your artistic ambitions. Too much work, too many family obligations, too many happy hours to hit. But if one of your New Year's resolutions was to get more in touch with your creative side, here are five Bangkok venues where you can hone your skills. Tourists can take part as well, as they all offer drop-in classes or short-term courses.
Painting, sculpture: Attic Studios
The studio is owned by longtime Bangkok expat Elsie Evans, a passionate Scottish artist who offers classes almost every day of the week and keeps her studio open for anyone who wants to hang out and paint.
Classes run from 9 a.m.-noon every weekday (1,200 baht for one session, 6,000 baht for six), and there's always something on the menu every weekend.
All you have to do is bring yourself -- canvases and paints are supplied by Evans for newcomers to the classes. Outside class time, artists can drop by anytime and work on their art, free of charge.

Pottery: Potteri Clay Workshop
Two methods of pottery are taught here: either using your hands to manipulate a ball of clay into whatever you desire (850 baht per session, 4,500 baht for five, 7,700 baht for 10), or the pottery wheel method -- think Demi Moore in "Ghost."
Classes are 950 baht per session, 4,800 baht for five, 8,640 baht for 10. The workshop itself is very chill, with two drop-in sessions running from Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Anyone who wants to drop in and work on their own stuff is welcome to do so, but call in advance to see if there's space available.
