The Thai Ministry of Labour says that some 130,000 outsourced workers are expected to lose their jobs due to the country's massive flooding this year while more than 600,000 employees have not returned to work yet.

Thailand could shift more towards a service-based economy in a global marketplace if it developed advanced analytics skills and capabilities among the workforce, says a global business analytics software vendor. Mikael Hagstrom, president of SAS Institute Inc, said governments such as Thailand's needed to reduce the risk of relying heavily on manufacturing where price competition and lower costs are key elements.
